Mentorship

We build mentor-mentee relationships that help Women in Agile community members
unlock their full potential as leaders in the workplace

Mentoring Program

WIA’s Mentoring program focuses exclusively on women navigating their career within Agile enterprises and puts special attention to creating value and development opportunities for those who offer their time as mentors through monthly events.

Mentoring allows you to connect one-on-one with another community member. You’ll meet with your mentor or mentee at least once a month to inspire, motivate, and grow in your agile journey.

Whether you are an experienced leader interested in investing in the next generation of Agilists or you are just starting your agile journey, being a part of a supportive mentoring community can propel your professional goals forward.

How Our Program Works

Conflicts of interest and potential conflicts of interest can spoil a mentoring relationship. Our program is intended for professionals active or in transition, as opposed to students, and mentees must have an interest in furthering knowledge and/or a career in the agile community. Learn more about conflicts of interest that can show up in mentoring.

Mentees and mentors must identify as female or non binary and will be selected through a review process that seeks to maximize community impact. We’ll take the info from your application to determine the right match to support your professional journey. Apply to be a mentor or mentee or both!
Once you’re matched with a community member, you’ll meet 1:1 once a month for the next six months (or more if your schedules and needs align). Keeping in touch after your match term is up to you and not required.
Mentors are invited to monthly Power Hour events to level up their mentoring skills and grow their networks. Mentors and mentees will be able to provide feedback on mentoring effectiveness during the program and upon its completion.

Mentoring Story Successes!

2023 Mentee

What a wonderful experience this was for me! [My mentor] helped guide me through a pivotal time on my path as a Scrum Master and Agileist. I am so grateful for the WIA organization for giving me the opportunity to learn, grow, and in turn, foster other women in my own organization. Wonderful program and wonderful mentor.

2023 Mentor

It was new and absolutely amazing experience for me. First of all, it is a great opportunity to share your experience and get a lesson from your mentee as well. Secondly, it gives you a feeling of doing something valuable as you see your work is helpful for mentee. The last point would be empowerment that is raised between you and your mentee as together you build safe and supportive relationships.

2023 Mentor

This mentorship program helped me to not only look at mentor-mentee relationship with a different lens. It helped me to focus on developing a mentoring mindset. This experience was a two-way conversation between my mentee and myself where we learnt from each other.

Are You Ready for Mentoring?

Yes, we invite you to apply if you do not have any potential mentoring conflicts of interest. Participation as a mentor or mentee requires being a member of the Women in Agile organization in good standing, and program applicants will be added as Women in Agile members at no cost.
This is a remote program available globally. Mentor Power Hour events are currently held in English.
The minimum obligation is one session per month for six consecutive months, but more is better! Mentors are also expected to join our monthly one-hour Power Hour sessions for the six months.
If selected, you’ll get an email from us with all of your match info. Expect to hear an update from us within three weeks of applications closing.

Please see our Conflicts of Interest page to learn more about conflicts that can arise in mentoring.

Mentor Power Hours are one-hour monthly events for WiA mentors to connect with peers and learn about mentoring, leadership, and inclusion together. Power Hours are also an opportunity for mentors to bring up questions or challenges they are facing in their own professional lives or mentoring relationships. These events are intended to be both uplifting and practical.
Yes! We recommend using different email addresses for signing up as a mentor and a mentee in our application platform, Dreami. It helps maintain the clarity of roles and ensures smooth communication and interaction within the program.

Conflicts of interest can have an impact on a mentoring relationship, regardless of the mentor’s intent. Our conflict of interest policy is not about exclusivity, but about providing a mentorship environment free of competing interest.

Women in Agile’s Mentorship program elevates women who have advanced careers working as agile practitioners and are leaders within agile enterprises to serve as mentors.
